Ole Gunnar Solskjær arrived from Norwegian side Molde in the summer 1996 for over £1 million and is fast becoming a favourite at Old Trafford, earning the nickname "The Babyfaced Assassin."
With the long term injury of Andy Cole at the beginning of the 1996/97 season, Solskjær was given a lengthy run in the team and proved an exceptional buy, contributing important goals both domestically and in Europe becoming United's top goalscorer with 18 goals.
Even with Andy Cole's return it was difficult to leave him out after striking
up a productive understanding with Eric Cantona, his intelligent movement
and positioning making him an almost perfect foil for the Frenchman. Ole
is still somewhat lightweight and inexperienced, however, but at 24 is
a great prospect for the future.
